BADASS LOCAL DESIGN: UNIQUE LA

over the weekend we checked out unique la’s holiday show in downtown los angeles with one of our main partners in shopping & cursing, caroline of love and loathing la. upon entrance we were staggered by sensory overload and generally embarrassed ourselves with our ooh-ing and ah-ing at local designers’ awesome merchandise. perfect intentions that morning to purchase only christmas gifts for loved ones were soon dashed with whispers of “treat yo self” and “your chickenhead friends don’t deserve presents anyway.”

though it’s hard to choose favorites (our purses were overflowing with delightful business cards by the end of the day), these were our top 5 local design discoveries of the day:

delicate, dainty yet durable jewelry? check. rings that spell out fuck it? CHECK CHECK CHECK! thank god designer ali has an etsy shop from which we are planning many future purchases.

sweet perversion

it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we would be drawn to a brand that produces adorable yet crass paper goods along with tote bags that read “be you, fucker” and “tequila is the gateway to prostitution” (seriously, get out of our heads).

poppy & blush

this booth looked like all of our pinterest dreams come true — chalkboard walls, snow globes housed in mason jars, birch coasters splashed with metallic paint, and gold cocktail stirrers aplenty. shit it was good.

hips and hair

we’ve been following this la brand for a while and love their snarky tshirts, muscle tanks (why would we ever wear anything else?), and one of the coolest brand names we’ve heard in a while. honestly, it pains us we didn’t think of it first but we will accept wearing shirts emblazoned with it as consolation.

we adored — and we don’t use that word often, trust — monique and her letterpress stationery, so much so that we couldn’t contain our letterpress fangirl selves and immediately bought the notepad that had a header featuring the word “HEY” flanked by 9mms. the better with which to write love letters immature notes to each other.
